‘Awareness and preparedness: are our planted forests ready for climate change?’
Tuesday 30 July, 9.30 am – 4 pm
Rydges, Wellington Airport
28 Stewart Duff Drive Rongotai (Miramar Meeting Room)

Concern about current and future risks to our planted forests from climate change are increasing. Impacts from extreme climate events such as the debris flows at Tolaga Bay or Marehau are the most obvious manifestation, but other concerns around increasing frequency of extreme fires or pest and disease outbreaks are other examples. As forestry is a long-term business we need to understand the current and future risks and act to mitigate them through various adaptation strategies.

The aim of this workshop is to increase awareness and preparedness in New Zealand with respect to our planted forests and climate change impacts by identifying risks and discussing potential adaptation and mitigation pathways to ensure resilient and sustainable forest management.

We need your views to help shape this.

At the workshop we will:
- present and discuss current perspectives on forests and climate change impacts (international and New Zealand industry viewpoints),
- identify and discuss current and potential future adaptation and mitigation activities.
The workshop is free and intended for all stakeholders interested in planted forests such as forest industry, government or regional council members, iwi and other user groups.

Your input into a short 10-15 minutes Online Survey will help shape our workshop and its outcomes. Please follow this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MCPLML3 to participate in this by 26th June.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the workshop.
